From the founders of Le Palais du Jardin in Covent Garden comes another large restaurant-bar-cafe complex. During the day, Brompton Cross shoppers stop by for a cappuccino or a light lunch, while in the evenings the bar attracts shop assistants and office workers out and about for after-work drinks. The restaurant often seems empty - and that's not just because this venue is massive. La Belle Epoque is modern and airy, with a bunch of al fresco tables lining one side. Like a typical French brasserie, this restaurant offers everything from seafood bar to bistro specialities, like steak and grilled fish, all competently realised. But the vibe just isn't there, which may explain the lack of crowds. The bar is a pleasant after-work destination.
