Conveniently located opposite the Kensington Odeon, just by the Commonwealth Institute, the sunny yellow walls and the playground-inspired primary colours of its lampshades make Cafe T'arte hard to miss. It calls itself a tarterie and the home-made tarts (savoury and sweet) are truly scrumptious. Cakes vary from the torturously tempting chocolate truffle to the somehow more justifiable Polish coffee and walnut gâteau. The owner herself is Polish, so Central and East European recipes tend to get a fair representation - the vanilla and lemon baked cheesecake is a firm favourite. Salads and freshly baked bread are made into sandwiches for both takeaway and eat-in.
