Rendered unmistakeable by its vivid façade, The Champion is a lively, modern gay pub. People of all ages frequent this popular drinking spot and invariably pack it out at weekends. The interior is unremarkable, wooden and spacious. During the day, the tunes are generally of the pop variety and in the evenings, dance rules the roost. On the second Saturday (from 9pm) and last Sunday (from 6pm) of every month, there is an evening cabaret performance with a traditional drag show and guest singers, some of whom you might have seen on shows such as Stars in their Eyes. The pub food served at lunch times is reasonable, with all main meals costing around £5. There's a great deal on double shots of selected spirits and a mixer for £2.99. And on Monday nights drinks cost a remarkable £1.50. The Champion is a friendly pub filled with locals though you do get the expected showing of American and Spanish tourists since it is located near the Bayswater Road hotel belt.
