Every year on the last Sunday in January, this much-celebrated tradition takes place. Lead by the Royal Stuart Society and the Society of King Charles the Martyr, the colourful event commemorates the execution of King Charles I in 1646. In honour of his self-declared martyrdom, cavaliers dressed in 17th century attire retrace his last walk from St. James's Palace to the Banqueting House in Whitehall. Upon reaching the Banqueting House at noon, a ceremony that includes wreath laying and prayers begins. Admission is free.
