Located at the top end of Portobello Road near the Notting Hill tube, The Gate Hotel is perfect for Portobello Market and all of Notting Hill's other attractions. The exterior is almost completely covered by wonderful creeping blooms while hanging baskets and window boxes of flowers add to its quaint look. The rooms are nice but are mostly a little on the small side. The hotel itself is tiny (six rooms) but the winding staircase and can't-swing-a-cat-in space will give you a good idea of what it is like to live as a Londoner, or as one with an average budget at least, in an area like Notting Hill. The service is lovely and the basement breakfast room really does feel like someone's living room.
