The Gielgud Theatre, named after the late, great actor/director Sir John Gielgud, has been described as one London's most beautiful playhouses. Built in the early 1900s, it is an architectural gem to be proud of. With a seating capacity of 889, the theatre also provides wheelchair access with two seats reserved in the auditorium. The majority of billings here are drama based, but a few comedies and even musicals feature in between. In fact, some time ago, high brow playwright Harold Pinter condemned the theatre for cancelling his play in favour of the very vernacular musical "Boyband". Terry Johnson's recent and much publicised production of "The Graduate" was also received here with resounding success and controversy.
