This handsome city restaurant has an impressive wine list that should satisfy even the most particular palette. The list has a strong French flavour (as does the menu), but with wines, champagnes, cocktails, ports and Madeiras, there's something to suit everyone's taste and wallet (prices from £16 to £279). The menu features a lot of seafood, but offers little for the vegetarian: dinner at this visit had only one vegetarian option of braised brill fennel, cocottes, potatoes and red wine jus (a snip at £18). Perched on a well-padded wall seat, the view over the restaurant is a sea of white tablecloths, yellow walls and slightly disturbing paintings. Patrons can sup while they wait for their party in the comfy, leather-couched bar but, as with the restaurant, be prepared to dig deep.
