Dating from the 13th century, now renovated and protected by English Heritage, this is a large, comfortable pub decorated with nice old photos of Cockney life, such as families unloading their harvest after the annual hop-picking pilgrimage to Kent. The Hoop has a wide variety of beers and a couple of real ales on offer, so come along and soak those beards in the good stuff. There's also a darts board and a pool table. Close to the heart of the City, and a stone's throw from the Whitechapel Art Gallery, this makes an ideal watering hole at the end of a busy day's sightseeing or, indeed, browsing. Pub grub is available for lunch and supper. Sadly, it's closed at the weekend when Petticoat Lane market is on.
