One of West London's best-kept secrets is the great sailing that takes place between Hammersmith Bridge and Chiswick throughout the year. Linden House is an old riverside building and home to this sailing club, associated with Thames sailing for over 100 years and, more recently, a London retreat for offshore yacht sailors. The club has a varied membership base, and benefits include low cost dinghy hire for Thames sailing, yacht crewing opportunities via their growing offshore group, booze cruises, social activities and preferential rates for theory and practical courses. Annual fees vary, but as the club wishes to attract young people, they are working on very reasonable rates for under-20s and students. If you are a beginner, you'll learn all the basics, including first aid, knots, theory and capsize drill; life jackets are provided.
