Built in the 19th century and named in memory of the last chairman of the old metropolitan railway, The Lord Aberconway is purportedly haunted by the spirits of the victims of the Great Fire of London - and those of city traders who got their fingers burned more recently. With a pleasantly laid-back atmosphere, plenty of dark wood and a smaller upstairs gallery, this is an authentic, traditional 'boozer' in the centre of the capital - and even the recent addition of floral wallpaper can't disguise the fact that The Lord Aberconway has history oozing out of every corner.
