Tucked away behind the main Notting Hill strip of road, Malabar is a good choice for those after-cinema hunger pangs. Malabar succeeds in presenting itself as a modern-era Indian restaurant, but it is certainly not minimalist. It is warm and welcoming, which appears to get the locals coming back time and time again. In fact, the only downfall (or bonus, depending on which way you look at it!) of the restaurant is that it is not easy to find in the residential area behind Notting Hill Gate. The food stays quite traditional to what Londoners consider to be a typical Indian restaurant. All the favourites are there, from Lamb Korma to Chicken Tikka Masala, all at reasonable prices. But Malabar does not skimp on the ingredients, which are all top-quality and perfectly suited to fill the gap after an evening out at one of the Notting Hill cinemas, which are just around the corner. It's a small restaurant, and can get busy - so book to ensure a table.
