This old-fashioned Italian-run fish restaurant is unconsciously, if a little wearily, traditional. It maintains a kitsch charm with piscine murals and mirrors, red and white check tablecloths and white-aproned waiters manning the two floors. Serving up seafood to Soho since 1928, the fish dishes are extremely competent, with established and less experimental platters like potted shrimps, jellied eels, devilled whitebait, cod's roe and rock oysters, fairing better than more new-fangled attempts like clam chowder. The house speciality is grilled Dover sole, alongside a huge variety of fresh fried or grilled fish. Desserts and wine are fairly nondescript, but the restaurant still reels in tourists, and a more mature breed of couple and business luncher.
