One of the busiest cafés on this central Soho backbone, Old Compton Café and the neighbouring continental-style terraces are a focal point of Soho street life and a favourite with the gay community. Everyone is welcome though, and light meals and snacks are served at reasonable prices, with just about everything on the menu available to take-away. Made-to-order club sandwiches, stacked succulently high with your choice of fillings are almost a meal in themselves; another popular choice with late-night diners is the rather tasty lasagne. The standard of coffee is not up to that of some of its rivals, but the Compton goes on into the fray long after others have closed. Out of the cafés that do keep the night oil burning, it represents much better value food wise. Night time is in fact when the café goes into overdrive, with pumping house music keeping after-hours clubbers, and no doubt the staff, going until daybreak, making it a hands-down winner in the early hours.
