There is a rustic, rather cocky charm to the Osteria Basilico. The location is a help - it's perched on a corner of Kensington Park Road and surrounded by like-minded restaurants whose combined charm spills out onto the pavements of the area. Inside, you need to abandon English sensibilities about space and privacy - it's somewhere between cramped and bustlingly animated. Such togetherness makes for a lively atmosphere which is complemented by the waiters who are consistently friendly, if a little frantic. The food is accomplished - the huge, grilled sea bass is particularly tasty and succulent. Booking is essential and usually means securing a table for either the early or late evening shift.
