Relaxed and casual, The Peasant attracts a constant stream of City workers on their way home, and students from the neighboring university. The central bar area takes up a large part of the restaurant's space and its small, bar-style tables run along the sides, next to the large windows. In winter the dark wooden décor is brightened by candles and a roaring fire at the back. The food is modern with a strong Mediterranean influence. It's worth trying the pasta or risotto dishes but the Baked Salmon with Fennel is a delicacy not to be missed. The menu changes regularly and is fairly limited, with a handful of starters and main courses to choose from. The wine list is select.
