Although less illustrious than Ronnie's, this flagship Pizza Express hosts world-class jazz acts of the highest calibre. The comparatively small stage is perfect for trios, quartets, even quintets formats which have produced some of the best jazz of our time and recent appearances by the likes of Andy Summers, Brad Meldan, Acoustic Alchemy, and Diana Krall reinforce its appeal. With such great potential, this jazz restaurant has earned international repute, and as expected from Pizza Express, is stylishly decorated and beautifully lit. Furthermore, few jazz venues could compete with the quality of food. Excellent acoustics and an air of intimacy with the musicians counterbalance a view sometimes restricted by other diners, and the appropriate lack of chatter during performances further heightens the joy of the music. Staff do enforce a policy of quiet, although the petiteness of the venue naturally instils politeness. An eclectic booking policy brings in world music as well as modern, be-bop, and traditional jazz forms. Easily one of the best jazz and eating venues in London.
