Were it not for the fact that Searcy's is at the Barbican Centre, it would doubtless entice a clientele interested in the food alone, rather than its added convenience for the theatre. Its current location is far from purely functional - it has tremendous views of St Giles Cripplegate Church and the Barbican's fountain-strewn lake, while dishes such as Roast Halibut with Tomato, Caramelised Apple and Shallots are wonderfully accomplished. The service (all important if there is a theatre booking involved) is aware and efficient. A performance menu offers two courses for £ 21.50 or three courses for £ 25.50, while an a la carte meal will set you back around £ 26.50 for three courses, with a glass of the recommended wine, Macon Villages, Chameroy, Louis Latour, priced at £ 25.
