If your experience of Indian restaurants thus far extends to stumbling into the nearest neon-lighted curry house after copious amounts of alcohol, with 10 equally inebriated pals and ordering the hottest curry on the menu with chips, then you really should visit this classy eatery. Winner at the Evening Standard/London Tonight Restaurant Awards for five consecutive years, Indian opulence abounds in this sumptuous basement establishment. The interior is a step above the usual, with colonial Raj style décor having been rejected in favour of a cool, still setting - neither European nor Asian with warm lighting and naturally textured surfaces. The food is a derivative of Mogul style cuisine and is, quite simply, exquisite. Particularly recommended is the Paneer Pudhina Tikka, but all the dishes are worth a try.
