For simple Japanese food in simple surroundings, visit one of Little Tokyo's small and generally excellent value-for-money restaurants like Ten Ten Tei. It may not be much to look at, but this Japanese diner is famed for its experienced kitchen and split-second timing, although the quality of service can be a bit erratic. The well-filled bento boxes (Japanese lunch boxes) are a great deal and usually include a variety of goodies accompanied by rice and miso soup.
