An accomplished alternative to the Le Méridien's ultimate Marco Pierre White experience The Oak Room, the hotel's other restaurant is this tranquil, elegant bistro, headed by the famed Parisian chef Michel Rostang, and it serves the kind of food you'd normally have to cross the Channel to savour. Set on the second floor of the hotel, the soaring conservatory windows bathe the dark wooden floors, Parisian ceramic tiles, leather chairs and pale, palmed decor in a wash of natural light. Still relatively pricey, the two-starred Michelin chef devises delights such as cream of scallop and mussel soup with a julienne of vegetables, and moist roasted halibut with a paprika sauce and sautéed tagliolini with peppers. The set table d'hôte menu offers ideal bistro food for around £20, such as a generous liver and mash with red wine gravy and whole roasted sweetbread with sautéed asparagus in a Noilly Prat and parmesan sauce.
